Qais Abdul rashid (قيس عبد الرشيد), born Imraul Kase, commonly known
as Kase Nikə is the mythical ancestor of the Afghan Race, thought to be
the first Pashtun who travelled to Mecca and Medina during the early
days of Islam. But there are some who consider this a myth and a
character that has been created in the recent years by non-Afghan
historians. Afghan historians however can not find any reference in the
history that would match with this name. Considering the early years of
battles between Afghans and the Arabs which lasted for about two
centuries it is hard to believe the relation that has been drawn between
Afghans and the Arabs in the story of Qais Abdul Rashid, but here's how
it goes.
Qais Abdur Rashid was born around 575 AD in Ghor in modern-day Afghanistan. In another story he is believed to be born in southern Afghanistan, specifically around the vicinity of the Sulaiman Mountains in Zhob, and was initially named Pehtan Qais. Upon hearing about the advent of Islam, he was sent by his tribe to Madina. He met the Islamic prophet Mohammad and embraced Islam, and was given the name Abdur Rashid by Mohammad. He was greatly impressed by Mohammed’s faith and later was invited to join Islam religion. Little did Qais Abdur Rashid knew that his fascination and decision to embrace Islam created twist in the lives of Muslims in the country. His faith and adoption of Islam’s way of life has brought him in the high regarded status to date. He was also sometimes called Malik meaning king. It was later said that he was the one who showed the Pashtuns the path to Islam which is why he is held in high esteem. It is also claimed that the famous warrior companion, Khalid ibn al-Walid introduced Qais Abdur Rashid to Muhammad (No reference is available to this myth). Qais is said to have died around 661 AD and is supposed to be buried in Kas-Ghar or Takht-e-Sulaiman.
Kase or Qais is said to be the common ancestor of all Pashtuns, all tribes being progeny from his sons or daughters. Qais Abdur Rashid was said to have married the daughter of the Sword of Allah, otherwise known as, Khalid bin Walid. Among their offspring were three sons who were said to be the ancestors of all of the Pashtun tribes in the world. These three sons along with a certain Karlan were said to have spread out among the region and created more tribes and communities of Pashtuns.
Qais Abdul Rashid is believed to have three sons or these ancestors of Pashtun or Afghan race are associated with Qais.
